Camerodene Buys

Former Au Pair in France and Junior Researcher in Socio-Economic Policies.

Hey, I’m Camerodene! I spent an incredible year in Paris as an Au Pair with Carla’s Au Pairs back in 2017 – and wow, what a life-changer. From navigating the Métro to mastering cheese boards, it was a full-on cultural deep dive that helped shape who I am today.

After my Au Pair year, I went on to study Political Science and International Relations – and yep, still totally obsessed with it. The experience gave me direction, confidence, and a serious case of wanderlust.

One of my standout memories? A birthday lunch with my host family – 8 delicious courses, the warmest company, and the Springboks clinching a win right after. It was the perfect blend of French elegance and South African spirit.

But the best part? My host family. They were kind, open, and made me feel right at home. We still keep in touch, and I’ll always be grateful for the bond we built.

If you’re even thinking about becoming an Au Pair, go for it! The growth, the memories, the people – it’s all so worth it.

Mariena Agenbag

CAP Au Pair in 4 Countries.

Hey, I’m Mariena! I’ve been on this wild Au Pair journey with Carla’s Au Pairs since 2016, living in the USA, Netherlands, Luxembourg and France. It’s been a rollercoaster, from pre-COVID adventures to figuring things out post-pandemic. One thing’s for sure: I’ve learned to trust myself, stand up for what I believe in, and face challenges head-on.

My time in the USA? Obsessed with their holiday decorations! In the Netherlands, I was all about the bike culture, and Luxembourg? The food and wine were next-level. But France has my heart for its chill vibe and long lunches—honestly, it’s a lifestyle I’d totally adopt.

Beyond the countries, it’s the relationships that have made this journey unforgettable. I’ve met friends from all over the world, and it’s amazing knowing I have a support system no matter where I am.

Homesickness? It’s real, but remembering why you’re doing this and taking time to do something out of the ordinary helps. Traveling the world with best friends, like my trip to Krakow, Poland was a highlight.

If you’re thinking about becoming an Au Pair, do it! The experiences, people, and personal growth-priceless.
