The Do’s And Don’ts When Speaking With A Potential Host Family:
Oh goodie!

You’ve made it this far – you are now officially in the matching process and speaking with people who will become family very soon!
Of course, you’d like to make a good impression on them, and we are totally here to assist you.
DO’S:

Please check the application database for messages, as well as your emails and WhatsApp’s!
When a host family contacts you, please respond as soon as possible. It will make you stand out!
When responding to families, use full sentences and have enthusiasm in your reply.
Here is a good example of how to reply to a host family:
”Dear Host Family, thank you so much for getting in touch with me. I am really looking forward to getting to know you and your family.”
PRO TIP: Personalize your reply to each host family!
It is always nice to add a personal touch to your reply. Perhaps they have two kids and they mention their children’s names in their first message to you.
You could then add to your reply:
“I am excited to get to know Suzie and Maxwell”. – these are little extra details that will stand out to host families.
We always suggest to be open-minded and interview with all families that contact you – this way you will really get to know the family and the potential kids that you will be caring for.
If you do not want to match with a family after interviewing with them, you can always send them a polite email/message letting them know.
If you are not sure what to say to them, let us know and we will assist you.
DON’TS:

Please do not ignore a host family who has contacted you because you feel that they are not the match for you, as mentioned it is best to be open-minded and give all families a chance; you will only really get to know a family properly by having a call with them.
Please do not use slang when replying to host families.
Remember, this is your time to shine so be friendly, and good communication from the very start is key!
When you have interviews with families, let us know how the call went. We are here for you!
Enjoy!
