Happy Valentineโs Day / Month!
This year we are celebrating our besties – the people who are always there for us, who always have our back and who we can laugh and cry with!

”When I first arrived in America as an Au Pair my main concern was making friends, I was worried that I would not meet anyone who I would be able to get along with.
I was also worried because the other Au Pairs in my area have been here for a while and have already established friendships.
The other Au Pairs in our group I met at the New York City orientation live about a 40-minute drive away, so it was difficult to see them often.
During my first Au Pair meeting with my lovely community counsellor Gema, I met Luisa.
She is from Colombia.
We only live three minutes apart in Cincinnati, Ohio.
I was so excited about this, and so was she!
We began doing everything together!
So far weโve been to many new restaurants to try some local Cincinnati food and some traditional American food.
We went to watch Cincinnatiโs American Football team, The Bengals, play.
We went to watch an Ice hockey game – this was our favourite!
Just last weekend we went to a roller rink and tried roller skating – this was also pretty fun, even though it was a challenge!
Another favourite was when we went candle making, and we got to pick our favourite scents and mix them together to create our own scented candle.
Kings Island is probably our favourite place. It’s an amusement park, and we LOVE rollercoasters, so we have been a few times already.
While we have done so much around Cincinnati we also have some fun trips planned for this year!
The first trip will be a road trip to Atlanta, Georgia in two weeks, and the next is a trip to Miami, Florida in April.
Meeting Luisa has been such a big part of my experience here in America.
It has been so amazing learning more about Colombian culture as well as American culture.
In Colombia they do not celebrate Valentines Day in February instead, they have a celebration on the 16th of September called ”Dia de Amor Y Amistad” which is Love and Friendship Day.
So, we get to show our appreciation for each other twice this year!
I hope you enjoyed my story of our friendship – there are definitely many more memories that we will share together in the year to come! – Tanita”
