We are BACK to tell you that it’s still okay to have doubts before going abroad.

 

Read on to find out what these doubts are and why it’s okay to have them.

 

 

Will my host family and I get along?

 

 

It’s normal to wonder whether you and your host family will get along.

 

It’s quite an adjustment to live in somebody else’s house and follow their rules. 

 

Most host families are very open-minded – after all, that is why they chose to become part of the Au Pair program! 

 

There are a few things you can do from your side to help build a strong relationship with your host family:

 

Be polite and respectful

Don’t be afraid to ask them questions

Spend time with them

Help with housework

Show interest in their life

 

Communication is key when it comes to a successful year abroad.

 

Discuss issues as soon as they arise.

 

Remember, the host family can only change their behaviours if they are aware of the problem. 

 

Will I be a good enough driver?

 

Driving is a vital requirement for most of our Au Pair programs.

 

You need to feel comfortable behind a steering wheel – especially for programs such as the USA, Belgium, France, Germany and Sweden.

 

 

You will most likely receive a car from the host family and you need to be confident driving it – especially on highways. 

 

 

You can practice your driving while you are still in South Africa or Namibia.

Will I be safe?
