Leandra crossed CAP’s path in early 2021.

 

Instantly, we saw potential in this bubbly girl.

She was a go-getter and ready to take on the world…

 

She was almost turning 30 years old and since there are age limits on the Au Pair programs, she knew this was a “now-or-never” situation.

 

 

Leandra fell in love with the idea of becoming an Au Pair in the Netherlands.

 

 

But there was one problem – potentially a dealbreaker:

Leandra couldn’t ride a bicycle well.

 

Okay, let’s pause the story for one second and get real here:

 

We know this may sound silly, but did you know that in the Netherlands, people bike wherever they want to go?

 

There are more bikes in the Netherlands than people.

 

Au Pairs are required to ride a cargo bike, also known as a “bakfiets.”

 

 

These bikes will be your transport in the Netherlands. You will take your host kids to and from school on this bike.

 

How cool is that??

 

Now, back to Leandra’s story:

 

When we realized Leandra couldn’t ride a bike that well, we urged her to practice this skill.

 

 

Yes, you can practice your biking skills – even as a grown-up!

 

 

After Leandra considered all her options, she decided to face her fears.

 

 

Leandra’s brother was her biggest fan – he even arranged biking lessons for her.

 

After a few lessons, Leandra started getting the hang of biking and she became more confident.

 

 

Fast forward a few months, Leandra was a confident biker AND she was ready to conquer the world.

 

 

When she arrived in the Netherlands, she was nervous to get on a bakfiets for the very first time, but she did it.

 

 

Leandra is currently in the Netherlands and celebrated her 30^th birthday there!

 

 

She loves every moment of it – biking and all!
